Population: 82,000,000 (approx.)

People: Egyptian, 98%, Berber, Nubian, Bedouin, and Beja, 1%; Greek, Armenian, other European (primarily Italian and French) 1%

Religion: Muslim (mostly Sunni), 90%; Coptic, 9%; other Christian, 1%

Christianity: large population of indigenous Christians; several strong, mature evangelical churches. Small, but not insignificant, numbers of believers of a Muslim background. Persecution in form of pressure from authorities as well as family and society.

Mission work: becoming more difficult for foreign workers to gain/maintain residency, but national Church has increasing burden to reach Muslim community.

Prayer: several believers of Muslim background are seeking official recognition as Christians.
