Gaza Relief Project - update
In January 2009 AWM launched the Gaza Relief Project, working in partnership with a Dutch relief agency operating inside the Gaza Strip.
Throughout the conflict the center was able to remain open – providing food, water, gas, medical aids and other necessary items to the many civilians whose lives were affected by the crisis.AWM’s aim was to raise €22,500 / US$28,000 / £20,000 as part of a larger budget for a longer-lasting initiative. Official figures are still coming in, but to date we have raised nearly €18,000 / US$23,500 / £16,000 of this figure. This is thanks to the many generous donors who have responded with love and compassion to a situation that is not altogether hopeless. People like you.
We would like to thank our donors for their partnership with AWM as we demonstrate the love of Christ to families in Gaza. A ban on the import of materials and some restrictions on the entry of cash have not made things easy. But so far, we have been able to provide and distribute:
food parcels for 85 families in the north of Gaza- 54 walkers and 23 wheelchairs
- 153 children with school supplies
- 24 mattresses
- three hospital beds
- 85 packs of clothing
- 5,677 olive trees for 63 farmers
- 135 bottles of gas
- and hundreds of bottles of water
Pray for these people as they struggle to restore their lives. Also pray for those who are demonstrating Christ’s love in many practical ways and in very dangerous circumstances.
