A Change of Heart - Part Six
It can be hard to discover Jesus on your own. Often we need the nudge of a trusted friend or family member to point us in the right direction and counsel us in the walk of faith.
If you grow up in a town where there are no churches in your local language, it can be even more challenging. Thankfully, Subhan* from North Africa came across Aahil* through the ministry of AWM Media. Aahil got in contact with Subhan after reading his email request for a New Testament.
Subhan was in his twenties and had never once owned a copy of the Holy Book. So when the portion of Scripture arrived, he digested it with great interest.
Jesus' life is wonderful. I am studying the New Testament with a friend who I have spoken to about the gospel. I have convinced him that it is the truth. We have been reading the letters together. We have seen the difference between legalistic religion (Islam, the Pharisees of Jesus' day) and a living relationship with Christ.
Aahil was keen to nurture this new follower of Jesus and was particularly concerned that Subhan didn't stay isolated from other believers for too long. Despite not hearing a response, Aahil persisted in emailing encouraging comments and verses of the Bible.
After around three months of silence, an update from Subhan dropped into Aahil's inbox with heart warming news: the new born believer had not only persevered but had also been helping others learn about the real Jesus. Subhan emailed again:
I don't know any other believers here. I regularly watch Christian TV and have one friend who studies with me. I have shared with him everything I have been able to and I have given him my copy of the gospel - the one you sent me - because he does not have the internet at home. I also continue to share the gospel with everyone I can, whenever there is a good opportunity.
As well as networking with local Christians to provide support, Aahil has continued to share Subhan's spiritual journey via online correspondence. Aahil has also committed to praying and encouraging his younger brother in the Lord. He recently passed on these wise words to inspire Subhan to finish the race well:
Don't ever drift away from His Holy Word which can build you up, guide you, put you on the right path and give you comfort, joy and happiness in the depths of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, rely on Him and He will act. Follow Jesus with all simplicity, just as He said: 'Come to me, for I am meek and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls.'
